In summer (May–August) Kashmir is mild: pack light clothes plus a sweater and jacket for evenings and meadows. In spring and autumn add warmer layers. In winter (December–February) you need thermals, a down jacket, woollen accessories and waterproof boots. Carry a postpaid SIM or plan for one, since prepaid connections from outside the region generally don't work.

  • Dress: modest clothing is appreciated, especially at shrines and in old Srinagar. Carry a scarf.
  • Power: winter power cuts are common — carry a power bank.
